Since joining LotusWorks, Kevin has built his career step by step, taking on new challenges as they came up and growing into a key role within the LotusWorks team supporting a leading global pharmaceutical client in Dublin. Starting out as a Calibration Technician and now working as a Calibration Coordinator, his journey shows how opportunities can open up when you’re willing to step forward.

Building a Career in Engineering

Kevin began his career through an electrical and instrumentation apprenticeship, where he developed a solid base across both areas. As he progressed, he moved into a more instrumentation-focused role, working across different sites and gaining experience in a range of environments.

While that variety was valuable, he was looking for something more long-term, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector. That’s what led him to LotusWorks.

He joined LotusWorks as a Calibration Technician on site in Dublin. Early on, his focus was on managing monthly schedules, completing calibrations, and working with planners to keep everything on track for the client. It was hands-on work that gave him a strong understanding of how the site operated day to day.

“I enjoyed the challenge of troubleshooting and resolving technical issues and knowing that the work we do has a real impact on patients,” Kevin says.

Stepping Into Leadership

After some time in the role, Kevin moved into shift work before coming across the opportunity to step into a Process Lead role, an opportunity that came up as the LotusWorks team continued to grow and evolve on site. This was a turning point for him, moving from purely technical work into leading a team.

“It’s a completely different aspect,” Kevin says. “When you’re working with equipment, you’re focused on the technical side. But when you’re managing people, you have to learn how to support them and create a positive working environment.”

Taking On More Responsibility

Kevin’s next move came when an opportunity opened up due to another major project starting on site. He stepped into the Calibration Coordinator role, taking on broader responsibility across the team. This progression reflected the opportunities available within LotusWorks as the project expanded.

Now working as second-in-charge, he oversees calibration activities across the facility, making sure everything stays compliant and on schedule. His role involves balancing planning, problem-solving, and working closely with both the team and the client.

The role also requires a strong awareness of how small issues can impact wider operations. Staying ahead of potential risks, keeping communication clear, and making adjustments early all play a part in maintaining performance across a busy and constantly changing site.

The role is varied, with priorities shifting day to day. From organising schedules and dealing with high-priority work to reviewing performance metrics and responding to issues as they come up, the focus is on keeping things moving and maintaining standards.

Learning and Looking Ahead

While Kevin came from a strong technical background, he’s clear that the biggest area of growth for him has been people management.

“People management was completely new to me,” he says. “You’re not just focused on getting the work done. You have to deal with day-to-day challenges, support the team, and keep everyone moving in the right direction.”

He also points to the support around him as a big factor in that development, particularly the team environment within LotusWorks, working closely with colleagues on site and learning from their experience along the way.

Looking back, Kevin puts his progression down to a consistent approach to work and being willing to take on whatever comes his way. Staying open to new responsibilities and making the most of opportunities as they arise has helped him move forward.

For anyone starting out, his advice is straightforward: “Work hard and be ready for opportunities when they come. They can come up fast, so you need to be prepared to step into them.”

Kevin’s journey shows how a career can develop within LotusWorks when you’re willing to take on new challenges and step into new roles as they arise. By continuing to learn and taking on responsibility, he has moved into a key leadership role, with plenty more still ahead.
