Finding Her Feet at LotusWorks
When Amy joined LotusWorks in 2011 through an internship programme, she could not have predicted where the role would eventually lead. What began as an administrative position during a period of rapid growth would eventually lead to her becoming Document Control Manager, overseeing a growing team and playing an important role in the expansion of document control services across a semiconductor client site in Ireland.
Amy joined the company at a time when the team on site was still relatively small but expanding quickly.
“At that point, we went from about six people on site to 20 and then grew rapidly to around 80 or 90 people at the peak during my time here,” she recalls.
As the first dedicated administrator supporting the site, Amy stepped into a role that was still finding its structure. Much of the administrative work had previously been shared across different people, so there was significant room for the position to develop. Rather than limiting herself to the original scope of the role, Amy began looking for ways to contribute more broadly across the business.
“Once I had learned the tasks assigned to me, I often found myself looking for additional things to do or ways to expand the role,” she says.
That mindset quickly became a defining feature in her career at LotusWorks. Amy spent time learning how different departments operated, building relationships across the site and gradually developing the experience that would later open new opportunities for her.
What started as an internship opportunity gradually turned into a long-term career. Over time, that willingness to get involved opened doors into entirely new areas of the business.
Taking on New Responsibilities
One of the relationships Amy developed during her time in administration was with the client’s head of document control. Through years of working closely with different teams, she became increasingly familiar with document control processes and the wider operational requirements on site.
When a new document control contract opportunity became available, Amy was ready to put herself forward. Although she had not officially worked in the role before, she had already spent years learning the systems, processes, and expectations involved.
“Even though I hadn’t officially done the role before, I had already learned the skills by sitting with experienced team members over the years,” she explains.
That preparation allowed her to transition into document control, and just over a year later, she became Senior Document Controller as the team and workload continued to expand.
Today, Amy is one of the longest-serving members of the team, with a deep understanding of how systems and processes have evolved over time. Her experience has made her a key point of contact for both colleagues and clients, while also helping the document control function expand beyond its traditional scope.
“In Ireland, we now handle tasks that other document control teams don’t, because both the client and our internal teams trust us,” she says. “If something needs to be tracked and recorded, document control is seen as the team to handle it.”
Amy credits much of that success to the collaborative culture within LotusWorks. She describes the environment as one where people consistently support one another and work together to solve problems.
“Within my own team, I wouldn’t be able to perform at the level I do without their support,” she says. “When something needs to be done, everyone steps up. It’s very much an all-hands-on-deck mentality.”
Having worked her way through different roles herself, Amy understands how important support and encouragement can be when people are learning something new.
The People Behind the Journey
For Amy, one of the strongest aspects of LotusWorks has always been the people. Over the years, she believes the company has helped her strengthen her interpersonal skills while creating a culture where relationships and collaboration genuinely matter.
“What has made the biggest impact on my experience here has been the people,” she says. “Building and maintaining relationships, both within your team and across other teams, is a key skill here. It’s not just about the work we do, but how we do it and who we are.”
She also speaks highly of the support she has received throughout her career journey. Whether adapting to new responsibilities, developing her skills, or balancing personal commitments alongside work, Amy says the company has consistently backed her ambitions and supported her progression.
She notes, “Whenever I’ve looked for support or opportunities to develop, the company has always been encouraging and willing to help me move forward”.
Reflecting on her own experience, Amy believes growth often comes from taking small opportunities when they arise and being willing to push yourself slightly beyond your comfort zone.
“That small additional effort can reveal a lot about what you want to do and what you’re capable of doing” she says.
From joining LotusWorks through an internship programme to becoming a senior leader within document control, Amy’s career reflects the value of staying curious, building strong relationships, and being willing to take opportunities when they arise.
