Global Commissioning Shared Resources: Enhancing Collaboration and Efficiency

LotusWorks has a long-standing reputation as a technical partner to some of the world’s leading manufacturers and mission-critical facilities. The globalisation of certain industries, talent shortages and innovation of technology are propelling a surge in the requirement for the outsourcing of workload to third party engineering vendors, like LotusWorks.

Outsourcing of work scopes such as commissioning can have a profound impact on a business. The benefits of outsourcing of work to third-party vendors include:

  1. Expertise and Specialisation: Companies like LotusWorks have specialised expertise in commissioning processes. This expertise ensures that the work is done efficiently and effectively, with a deep understanding of the latest industry standards and technologies.
  2. Cost-Effectiveness: Outsourcing can be more cost-effective than maintaining an in-house team, especially for specialised tasks. It eliminates the need for training and hiring specialised staff, and the costs are typically variable and can be scaled according to the project’s needs.
  3. Focus on Core Business: By outsourcing commissioning tasks, your company can focus on its core competencies. This allows you to allocate more resources and attention to the primary business activities without being stretched thin by commissioning work.
  4. Risk Management: Third-party vendors are generally better equipped to manage the risks associated with commissioning. They have the necessary experience and protocols in place to handle unexpected issues, ensuring that projects stay on track.
  5. Access to Advanced Technologies: Companies like LotusWorks often invest in the latest technologies and tools for commissioning work. By outsourcing to them, you get access to these advanced resources without the need for significant capital investment.
  6. Flexibility and Scalability: Outsourcing allows for more flexibility and scalability in response to changing project needs. You can easily scale up or down the services as required, which is more challenging with an in-house team.
  7. Quality Assurance: Reputable third-party vendors have established quality control processes to ensure high standards. This means that the commissioning work is likely to meet or exceed industry standards, leading to better overall project outcomes.
  8. Global Experience and Compliance: Vendors like LotusWorks often have global experience and are well-versed in compliance with international standards and regulations. This is particularly beneficial for companies operating in multiple countries or regions.
  9. Timely Completion: Due to their expertise and focus, third-party vendors can often complete commissioning tasks more quickly and efficiently, helping to ensure that projects are completed on time.
  10. Long-term Maintenance and Support: After the initial commissioning, these vendors can provide ongoing maintenance and support, ensuring that the systems continue to operate efficiently and effectively over time.

In summary, outsourcing commissioning scopes of work to specialised vendors like LotusWorks can lead to more efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality project outcomes, while allowing your company to focus on its core business activities. LotusWorks is a leading technical project resources provider, allowing clients access to technical and engineering talent and knowledge at short notice and for flexible periods of time. Global Commissioning Shared Resources Strategy

LotusWorks mobilisation strategies have not only proved successful for commissioning clients but this has proven successful for LotusWorks to stand out from their competitors. Ramp up and ramp down capabilities have paved the way for successful talent management within the company. The Global Commissioning Shared Resources strategy is the idea that during times of increased project demand, where extra personnel support is needed to help that project reach a milestone, key personnel can be transferred from one project to another

Global Commissioning Shared Resources

LotusWorkers, Justine, a Mechanical Commissioning Lead shared her experience on one of our recent Global Shared Resources Project:

“During my recent Global Shared Resources experience, I was asked to travel to New Mexico for three weeks to support a semiconductor project push to Ops Ready. This involved helping with everything from hands on testing, to walk downs, to documentation support. While my main focus was supporting the mechanical commissioning needs, I was able to also get involved with instrumentation and control commissioning as well. I found the experience extremely fulfilling and invaluable. Not only did I gain valuable technical experience working directly on equipment, but I was also able to bring back lessons learned and other experiences to my home project that will help us run more smoothly and avoid the same mistakes, when our project progresses to those stages.

Justine added: “I believe that this Global Shared Resources strategy is extremely valuable to clients because we mobilised quickly, we are able to travel for a significant period of time, we add manpower to the project without requiring additional hiring, and we are able to bring back those lessons and experiences to our home project.”

As a LotusWorker, the opportunity to travel and gain a wide range of experience on a multitude of sites and sectors, allows for all employees to expand their knowledge and skills, whilst contributing to the success of a project on a client’s site. This offers a differentiation in an employee’s normal day to day role on site and allows for a shared learning experience whilst working towards the same goal. Teamwork and service excellence are two of LotusWorks’ core values, that helped to construct this strategy. Having a diverse range of talent and a dynamic team working towards a shared vision contributes to the success of LotusWorks.

This was the case for Commissioning QA/QC Lead, Peter who expressed his gratitude of being able to be involved in the project;

“Being part of the Global Cx was great, working with a team based across multiple sites working towards a similar goal fostered a strong shared learning environment. Another great aspect of Global Cx was being able to return to my previous team and support the team during a critical phase of their project. It was nice to see how the project had progressed and getting to be part of the team hitting a big milestone was very rewarding.”

Global commissioning of shared resources has emerged as a powerful strategy for modern businesses seeking to harness the potential of collaboration and resource optimisation. By breaking down traditional barriers and tapping into diverse talent, organisations can drive efficiency, innovation and competitiveness in an increasingly interconnected world. In a competitive landscape, outsourcing with a reputable partner, like LotusWorks can be a game-changer for businesses aiming to enhance efficiency, cut costs and elevate their performance. By entrusting specialised tasks to experts, organisations can focus on their core competencies while reaping the benefits of external knowledge and support.

Outsourcing can benefit a wide array of businesses, irrespective of their size or industry. It’s essential to assess the specific needs and goals of your organisation to determine if outsourcing aligns with your strategy.

Effective communication, well-defined expectations, and regular performance evaluations are key to fostering a successful partnership with an outsourcing provider.
