Finisklin Charity Cup is back

Last year, LotusWorks’ CSR team, based in Sligo HQ, hosted the “Finisklin Charity Cup fundraiser in support of Maryville Homeless Shelter raising €3,000 for the charity.

As a result of the success of the soccer tournament event organisation and generosity of the companies who all donated and participated, it was a “no brainer” to run with the fundraising initiative again for 2019.

This year the Finisklin Charity cup will follow the same format as 2018-teams will compete for the winner’s cup in the 7 a side soccer games. The expressions of interest were really well received and 10 teams signed up for the “Finisklin Charity Cup” soccer tournament taking place June 19th. The support from companies taking part and sponsorship has been excellent. The cost of entering a team to the competition is €250 with more fundraising opportunities on the evening. Participating teams include Abbott, Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), Voya Organic Beauty, Ward Automation, Amcor and Lindal Group.

Each year, LotusWorks employees in Ireland are asked to vote for and select a national ‘Charity of the Year’ and also a charity close to the site they are based on.  The team in Sligo chose to support the North West Hospice for the event. North West Hospice provides specialist care with compassion for those living with life-limiting illness who require palliative care in the Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal and Cavan community. In order to provide this care, North West hospice has a team of professionals including medical staff, social workers, physiotherapists and chaplaincy services. The hospice is funded 50% by the government and the remaining 50% through fundraising.

The event would not be possible without the very generous sponsorships made. The main sponsors of the “Finisklin Charity Cup” are Diverse Printing & Graphics, Total Produce, LMS, Centra Maugheraboy, and Sligo Rovers showgrounds, who offered the use of the facility free of charge for the event.  Three referees have also volunteered their time. It’s been amazing to see what can be achieved by a small business community when all join together.

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!” – This statement is very appropriate for the fundraiser. The excitement has been building and it is promising to be a great evening of fun and games and most importantly an event, giving back to the community.

The Finisklin Charity Cup kicks off at 17:15PM on Wednesday, June 19th at the Sligo Rovers Astro Pitch.
